He grew up in Brooklyn, New York but returned to his native Trinidad after the fateful events of September 11th. The cold winters were also a deciding factor in his returning to sweet TnT.
Jerry West bought his first pair of turntables just to practice mixing and scratching like the Hip-Hop DJs did in the music videos. He had a neighbor who would listen to him practice and tell him that he sounded like a professional DJ.
The encouraging words of his neighbor were all the ammunition Jerry needed to battle on and pursue a DJ career. He has certainly come a long way from the guy in the first floor Brooklyn apartment playing around on his turn tables. Jerry has played at some of the biggest clubs in New York City like, Tunnel, Club Speed and The Rebar. He is now the resident DJ at Zen night club.
Many people find it hard to understand why a black man is so engrossed in dance music. For Jerry, Dance is the first genre he started playing to. He loves the energy and hype that surrounds dance music.
A fiend for Haagen Daaz ice cream, he dislikes DJs who play for themselves and don’t take the time to read their crowd.
Jerry West wants to be the person to pioneer the local EDM (electronic dance music) scene. And put dance music on the map for Trinidad and Tobago, and by extension the Caribbean.
