Plans have been put in place to ensure that gas stations where supplies have been used up because of panic buying, are adequately supplied with gas.
Panic buying set in today after the Oilfield Workers Trade Union threatened strike action at state owned Petrotrin.
Energy Minister Kevin Ramnarine today assured the public that there is a two month supply of gas at Petrotrin and if there is the need for more the government will import gas from the US East Coast.
There remains hope of a reconciliation in the labour dispute after Labour Minister Errol Mc Leod intervened yesterday and held the first round of talks between the Oilfield Workers Trade Union and Petrotrin.
Mc Leod did not give details of the talks which he said is at a delicate stage but said that he is seeing signs of progress.
The OWTU served notice on Petrotrin that strike action will officially begin at ten o’ clock on Saturday morning.
That’s when workers in all departments ranging from production to supply will down tools and go to a makeshift strike camp where they are expected to stay- on the orders of the Union, for ninety days.
